Show Length: 40 minutes

Princess Penepole loves to read about dragons. Imagine her surprise when she actually meets and befriends a dragon! Their introduction coincides with the arrival of a much-touted dragon slayer, Sir Reginal Thwebes. Upon discovering the potential threat of a dragon in the palace, King Rhubarb charges Sir Reginald to fight the dragon. Will it be a fight to the death? Will it be a draw? Will they even fight at all? Find out in All Hands Productions version of “The Reluctant Dragon.” Loosely based on Kenneth Grahame’s book, this production utilizes colorful moving-mouth hand puppets and rod puppets to tell a story about friendship and understanding. Puppets created by David Stephens and costumes by Scottie Rowell. This show was funded in part by a 2008 Jim Henson Foundation Family Grant.

“A SPRY WIT AND SWIFT AVENGER!” ~ San Francisco Chronicle

‘Hilarious’ is the only way to describe THE MALE INTELLECT: AN OXYMORON? You will laugh non-stop for ninety minutes as Robert Dubac ransacks his brain to answer the age old question, “What do women want?” All while drinking a beer.

Dubac has crafted an hysterical one man multi-character show that tackles the babble of the sexes with precision and wit. With a shrug of his shoulders or a crook of his neck, Robert Dubac seamlessly transforms himself into five alter egos – each offering their own brand of misguided advice on how to straddle the gender gap.

Hailed by critics and audiences alike, THE MALE INTELLECT: AN OXYMORON? Is a rare thing; a clever combination of theater and stand-up comedy that is laugh-out-loud funny, provocative and insightful all at once. There are two types of people who should rush and see it – men and women!

DOUBT – McMillin Theater
9/7 – 9/30/12

“A superb new drama, with an uncanny blend of compassion and detachment, with the compelling structure of an old-fashioned detective novel. One of the years 10 best” (Ben Brantley, The New York Times). DOUBT is one of the mostly highly praised plays of the past decade, the winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Tony Award. It is thought-provoking and intensely dramatic, yet absolutely balanced and humane in its approach to all of its compelling characters. A truly great play for our times, and a dramatic beginning to the Theater Works season!

THE MUSIC MAN – Gyder Theater
10/5 – 10/28/12

Stephen Sondheim calls Meredith Willson’s THE MUSIC MAN “my favorite musical”, and he has lots of company in his opinion. This is by any account one of the great American musical theater classics – 76 Trombones, Gary, Indiana, Till There Was You – the score is filled with memorable tunes, the plot with comic and quirky characters, and the book with wit and wisdom. Come celebrate with us as we strike up the band with the biggest, brassiest musical of all!

A CHRISTMAS CAROL – Gyder Theater
12/1 – 12/23

The holiday classic, back for an encore, in the original adaptation created for Theater Works last season and presented to full houses & standing ovations. Dickens’ moving ghost story of one man’s spiritual redemption combines with lively renditions of favorite corals to make a holiday treat for the whole family.

BURNING IN THE NIGHT – A Hobo’s Song – McMillin Theater
1/25 – 2/24/13

Theater Works proudly presents the world premiere of a play based on the memoirs of Dale Wasserman, the renowned author of Man of La Mancha and the play One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. Dale rode the rails as in itinerant laborer – a hobo, not a bum – as a teenager during the Great Depression. Acclaimed Arizona playwright Richard Warren has turned Dale’s memory of those crazy-free wanderings into a funny and moving evening of theatre, seasoned with some of the great American folk songs of the rails and the road. Be part of the launching of a lovely new play – right here in the shadow of the “Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe”.

MUSICAL OF MUSICALS – Gyder Theater
3/5 – 4/7/13

June can’t pay the rent. Will the evil landlord evict her? Can her handsome leading man come to the rescue? It’s an oft-told tale – and in MUSICAL OF MUSICALS it’s told five more times – in the styles of America’s greatest musical-makers! Rodgers & Hammerstein might place the story with a Dream Ballet on the wide open plains, Jerry Herman might have a splashy star like his Dolly or Mame. Andrew Lloyd Webber would like make a pop musical of it, and Kander & Ebb would place it in a seedy Cabaret in Chicago. Sondheim would take a darker, more modern edge – perhaps Sunday in the Park with Sweeney Todd. MUSICAL OF MUSICALS is great fun, whether you’re a devotee of the form or just like a tuneful, funny, rollicking good time!

ACCOMPLICE – McMillin Theater Works
4/12 – 5/12/13

This devilishly clever thriller is performed to the mystification and delight of audiences through the world. The original Broadway production (starring Seinfeld Jason Alexander and Spinal Tap’s Michael McKean) won the Edgar Award (the highly coveted Oscar” of crime) and the Dramalogue Award for Best Play. USATODAY called it “part murder mystery, part sex farce and completely entertaining, suspenseful, charming and funny.” In the tradition of Sleuth and Deathtrap, Accomplice is a theatrical thrill ride, twisting and turning until it brings you to a surprising conclusion. And PLEASE – don’t give away the ending!
