THEATER ALIVE SPRING-Theater Works’ Youth Musical Theater Training Program Registration now open! This exciting program teaches a wide variety of disciplines including acting, voice, movement, stage presence, and community participation. Sessions are led by professional directors working in the field, and all students receive a role in the production. Theater Alive is open to students at all levels in their musical training, making this the perfect program for beginners and more seasoned performers alike.

Announcing our TheaterAlive Spring Production: Madagascar – A Musical Adventure, Jr!
Join Alex the Lion, Marty the Zebra, Melman the Giraffe, Gloria the hip hip Hippo and, of course, those hilarious, plotting penguins as they bound onto your stage in the musical adventure of a lifetime. Based on the smash DreamWorks animated motion picture, Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. follows all your favorite crack-a-lackin’ friends as they escape from their home in New York’s Central Park Zoo and find themselves on an unexpected journey to the madcap world of King Julien’s Madagascar. Filled with outlandish characters, adventure galore and an upbeat score, Madagascar JR. will leave audiences with no choice but to “Move It, Move It!”
Tuesday, December 27
Audition Prep – Acting 9am-Noon We will walk you through the entire audition process, from monologue selection and refinement, to audition etiquette, all the way through how to make a great impression on the casting directors. Come prepared with two short monologue selections and you’ll leave feeling confident you can nail that role!
Audition Prep – Vocals 1-4pm This workshop is a great pairing with the morning’s work on auditions! Now that you’ve learned the basics of being “in the room where it happens”, learn some crucial how-to’s for vocals: talk to the pianist, prep at home, choose just the right song, WOW the directors with your 32-bars. Come with one to three music selections in a key appropriate for your vocal range.
Wednesday, December 28
Teamwork & Scene Work 9am-Noon Will this workshop be a blast? “Yes, and…” Come learn all about improvised scenes with a partner, a la “Whose Line Is It Anyway”, and how to strengthen teamwork in scene work to make your dream work!
Vocal Technique – Belting and Pop Rock 1-4pm Channel your inner Idena or Justin in this workshop that teaches not only the mechanics and technique of how to belt, but also how to hone your tone and quality when singing pop music. Come with one to three music selections in a key appropriate for your vocal range.
Thursday, December 29 Building a Character 9am-Noon Walk through all the steps it takes to create a well-developed and believable character on stage. You’ll learn tips and techniques used by the pros, including how to build a backstory, and head-to-toe character physicalization.
Acting Through Song 1-4pm Work with an experienced Musical Theater Director to take your solos to the next level! Learn song analysis, bodywork, and specific vocal techniques that bring the story in your song to life. Bring a folder or notebook, pencil, highlighter.
