Theater Works' Youth Musical Theater Training Program

Sessions are led by professional directors working in the field, and all students receive a role. Theater Alive is open to students at all levels in their musical training, making this the perfect program for beginners and more seasoned performers alike.

This exciting program teaches a wide variety of disciplines including acting, voice, movement, stage presence, and community participation. This thrilling and heartwarming coming-of-age story follows the strong-willed Moana as she sets sail across the Pacific to save her village and discover the truth about her heritage.

MEET OUR TEACHING ARTISTS & INSTRUCTORS:
Samantha Isely is thrilled to be back at TheaterWorks, and back in Phoenix! Recently earning a Master’s degree in Vocal Pedagogy for Contemporary Commercial Music (CCM) from Shenandoah University, Samantha actively advocates for healthy vocal production for contemporary singers. She is a licensed K-12 music teacher and in addition to her private voice studio, she headlines MT masterclasses and music directs within Phoenix’s thriving theater community. Samantha has music directed and choreographed over 40 musical theater, a cappella, and choral productions across Arizona, Nevada, and Virginia (including music directing the pilot production of 17 Again: The Musical in Las Vegas). An accomplished performer, Samantha has also appeared in over 30 theatrical productions. Notable roles: Beggar Woman (Sweeney Todd), Sarah (Company), Enid (Legally Blonde), Matilda Hyde (All Shook Up). Other professional collaborations include vocal ensembles (caroling, pop a cappella, and choral), handbell choirs, and numerous classical and contemporary solo artist endeavors.

Morgan Rose-Johnson: Broadway: School of Rock (Dance Capt/Swing); Off-Broadway: Dear Edwina (Dance Capt/Swing); National Tours: Evita Revival 1st Nat’l Tour (Swing), Shrek The Musical 1st Nat’l Tour, Elf The Musical. In addition to performing, Morgan is a passionate arts educator. She recently relocated to Phoenix after 16 years in New York City where she is still guest faculty at Broadway Dance Center, Master Faculty for Joffrey Ballet School’s Musical Theatre Intensive, MTCA and AMDA. Morgan has served as Associate Director for Arts For Autism Benefit Concert the past three years and as Co-Choreographer for Michigan’s High School Music Theatre Award, the Sutton Foster Award. She has been incredibly fortunate to work alongside some of New York’s most inspiring choreographers including Al Blackstone, Natalie Malotke, Ricky Hinds and Josh Bergasse. Camden Wawro is an award-winning actress, singer, director, designer, and teacher from Glendale, Arizona. She graduated from Brigham Young University in 2022 with a BA in Theatre Arts with an emphasis in directing. She currently works as the Education Assistant at Theaterworks.

Thomas Underdal is an interdisciplinary theatre maker, educator, and scholar. His work as a theatre maker spans the roles of director, writer, dramaturg, and designer whose work is situated at the crossroads of theatre for youth and ecological theatre. He has worked with ages 3 years and beyond introducing and exploring the world of theatre through creative drama arts integration. Thomas is an MFA Theatre for Youth and Community student at Arizona State University. He is also the current Director of Education with TheaterWorks and the Play Works Coordinator for AZ Thespians.
